I started out as a primary school teacher, teaching for eight years in three different schools. Completing a Masters in education aroused my interest in research. Then I was hooked. I went on to complete a PhD, researching effective ways of improving children’s writing skills. Not content with the usual practice of burying what I found in a long, technical text (thesis), I also set out to pass on what I had found out to teachers and parents (via the storywrite website) so that they could access easily what I had learned and benefit from it too.
Since then, I have spent around 10 years communicating research to and between teachers through writing summaries of research, running evidence-based workshops, carrying out evaluations of school-based initiatives, and supporting teachers in carrying out their own action research enquiries. I am based in the East Midlands, in the UK.
